Respect your rhythm and that of the hikers of your group

Hiking is an accessible sport, but it remains a sport that mobilizes your energy. Take care of yourself accordingly and stick to your body rhythm. Your guide will be attentive… Hiking is not a race. It’s about taking your time and going at your own pace.

The best ally of your hike… the shoes!

Having a good material is essential, starting with your shoes that will guarantee you comfort and safety. So we forget the flip-flops, sneakers and other shoes that don’t fit well! The must, shoes that support the ankles and fit. Think of hiking poles (if you have any) to minimize your fatigue and have a safer foot.

Stay focused until the end of the walk

Fatigue and cumulative kilometres… but also the beauty of the landscape, can make you less attentive. Stay focused from start to finish. Your guide will offer you several breaks to catch your breath but also to take lots of photos !

Water...

Whether you prefer a water bottle or a water bag, don’t wait until you’re thirsty to hydrate! If hiking doesn’t make you sweat as much as running, remember that an adult loses an average of 2.5 litres of water a day. It is therefore essential to have enough water for the whole duration of the hike (at least 1 liter per person for two hours of walking, ideally 2 liters per person). Don’t forget to take more in warm weather.

... And food, just in case

Do not hesitate to bring snacks with you. Prefer “dry” foods (cereal bars or dried fruit) that will have a better weight/energy ratio… it will weigh less in your bag.

Avoid the heavy bag

Think about the utility and weight of each item you put in your bag. Your backpack can quickly become your worst hiking enemy ! Hiking with a light backpack has several advantages : You will have less effort to provide, so you will be less tired, and will be able to walk longer.
A lightweight bag will help you avoid upper and lower body pain, you’ll be more stable, and less likely to slip and/or fall along the way.

Protect yourself from insects

Nature is an environment populated by large and small animals. Insects (bees and wasps, mosquitoes, horseflies, ticks), even barely visible, can cause a lot of inconvenience, think of a soothing ointment … Better to prevent ! A small body inspection on the return is also necessary (lyme disease). Don’t worry, your guide will be equipped with a first aid kit to relieve any inconvenience.

Respect the “LEAVE NO TRACE” philosophy

Hiking is a great way to enjoy the nature that surrounds us. However, it will only stay beautiful if we take care of it. Make sure you use the marked trails as much as possible. Don’t pick up anything and bring all your waste with you.

With NB Evasion We support these values and act for ever more responsible tourism.

"Leave no Trace" philosophy

"Leave No Trace" is an initiative to limit the impact of human passage on nature. The Leave No Trace program puts in place 7 principles to educate outdoor enthusiasts about environmental preservation.

1. Prepare and Plan

It is important to prepare your visit to natural sites. Make sure you are aware of the legislation in force in the area and respect them. Try to plan your excursion outside of busy periods, so that nature is not overloaded. Move in small groups.

2. Use durable surfaces

Stay as much as possible on marked trails and camping sites. Walk in line in the middle of the trail, even if it is muddy or wet. By trying to bypass these areas, you risk contributing greatly to the deterioration of the flora and causing further erosion. Be careful not to extend your camp. Concentrate your activity where vegetation is absent.

3. Properly manage waste

This is perhaps the most logical advice for an environmentally friendly trip ! Take all your waste with you : leftover food, garbage – including toilet paper. Use biodegradable soap when washing or washing dishes, and make sure that wastewater does not end up in natural water sources.

4. Leave what you find intact

Enjoy the environment, but leave the stones, plants etc where you found them. Do not build any form of structure or layout. In brief : try to keep everything exactly as when you arrive.

5. Minimize the impact of fires

A campfire is good, but it can also have serious consequences for the environment. If you are making a fire, use only the designated areas. Keep your fire as small as possible to minimize fumes from burning wood. Use only branches found on the ground. Burn all the wood until all that remains is the ashes and put out your fire before you leave. Instead of a fire, promote the use of a stove for cooking, and a lantern for lighting.

6. Respect Wildlife

Admire wild animals from a distance, without following them or feeding them. Do not disturb them when they are very vulnerable, as during the mating season. Enjoy the flora without ripping or trampling it.

7. Respect other users

Be respectful of other visitors and the quality of their experience. Be courteous. Let others pass on the trail. Let the sounds of nature prevail. Speak softly and avoid being loud.
