Alcoutim

Alcoutim, village nestled on the hillside invites to serenity, far from the hubbub of the coast, with a breathtaking view of the border river, The Guadiana and the village of Sanlucar de Guadiana, on the Spanish side. Several statues recall that Alcoutim was until the middle of the 20th century, a high place of cross-border smuggling.

The 4km walk begins with a path that allows to capture beautiful views of the river with its soft curves and soothing landscapes. We stop easily here and there to watch the sailboats slide on the water.

You will reach the ruins of the medieval castle of the Moorish era (Castelo Velho), where we can admire a 360° view of the valley. We will continue our walk quietly discovering wonders such as a freshwater beach, ideal to cool off, mills, a fresco of azulejos tracing the Portuguese culture. Back in the village, you will have the opportunity to visit the castle of Alcoutim, its garden and its archaeological museum presenting beautiful pieces including a collection of ancient games.

You can, at your leisure, have lunch in one of the many restaurants in the city, or if you prefer, stroll here and there !

In the afternoon, let yourself be rocked by the water for a 45 minutes boat ride to discover and admire the incredible beauty of this region. A moment of relaxation guaranteed !
